Pinata Cake.

I saw a photo of a cake a while ago of a pinata cake on Pinterest so thought I would give it a go. I have changed the recipe and been slightly more precise on cooking times etc to save you the trouble of guessing like me!

To start off with make a sponge cake mix of your choice that requires 6 eggs. Make half the mix half and pour into a 1.5 litre oven safe bowl. bake in the oven at 160 for 50 minutes or until a knife comes out clean. Turn out onto a cooling rack and then make up the other half of the mix and bake. Then turn out that cake. Leave both to cool completely.

Once the cake is cool cut the top off so the cake has a roughly flat surface. Then with a spoon scoop out some of the middle leaving one inch round the sides, do this to both halves.

Next ice the bottom half of the cake roughly and put in the fridge to help keep the structure leave for 20 minutes.

Take the cake out of the fridge and fill with sweets I chose a mix of colours and textures so that there would be something everyone would enjoy.

Fill the cake with the sweet pile them up so when the other half of the cake is on top it will not cave in. Ice the edge of the other half of the cake so it will hold easily.

Then place the top half of the cake on. This was a bit tricky but just be careful and it will be fine. Place in the fridge for another 20mins.

Take out the fridge and ice the cake using a spatula. I used Betty Crocker vanilla icing and I honestly can't recommend it. It tasted really fake but I was in such a rush so it had to do.

Decorate with mini smarties.

When cut open the sweets pour out just like a pinata!
